Robotized cell control and assembly glass on vents

Automation and quality control with machine vision in a single 4.0 solution.

On behalf of a major company operating in the home appliance industry, Vision Device designed, manufactured, and installed an automated robotic system for the visual inspection and assembly of decorative glass to be glued as a faceplate to the center of cooktop suction nozzles.

Being a primarily visual aesthetic component, the assembly operation had to be carried out with great care, accurately compensating for differences in position, and within certain limits for differences in size (correcting for errors as best as possible), by means of machine vision system guidance.

Again to achieve the best possible aesthetic result, the system also controlled the correct dispensing of the silicone bead joint between the decorative glass and the seat prepared on the nozzle to avoid excess silicone.

The technologies implemented in the job order are many:

  • Anthropomorphic robot, for manipulating the material to be processed;
  • Molding technology;
  • Gluing technology, silicone and cyanoacrylate glue dispensers;
  • Artificial Vision Technology;
  • Plant control and centralization, with Industry 4.0 ready supervisor.

All of the drawing mechanics required to set up the cell was also designed and supplied, including the robot gripping organ, jigs for handling parts, and anything else necessary.

The vision system with 4 cameras takes care of the accurate control of the position and size of the decorative glass and for the control of position and size of the seat on the suction nozzle.

Vision Device's proprietary software, called LinceoONE and developed over more than 30 years of application experience, enables the creation of highly interactive programs with very intuitive and information-rich menus and graphics.

In particular, all the proposed processing algorithms are perfectly known and used in numerous applications and with different vision hardware.

To complete the supply, a pulpit with integrated HMI was realized for the management of the entire robotic cell; from the main panel it is also possible to parameterize the vision system, view statistics and manage production plans directly connected to the company management system.

All system commands are associated with a capability (possibility index), which allows them to be prevented from being used by unauthorized personnel, for reasons of confidentiality and security of system integrity.
